		Arnold Shapiro, the director and producer of Scared Straight/Beyond Scared Straight, built his career by  sensationalizing the lives of troubled
children. His program, which aired with the consent of parents, subjected minors—many of whom were vulnerable due to poverty, lack of parental guidance,
or mental health issues—to traumatic experiences under the guise of "shock therapy." The children themselves were given no voice in the matter,
unable to revoke the consent granted by their guardians. No child is born inherently bad. They are a product of their environment; if the child is
failed by their role models, they will fail society.
		The show violated many regulations, such as Sight and Sound Separation; which states that juveniles may not have sight or sound contact
with adult offenders while in a secure custody setting. Not only was this broken throughout the show, it was completely surpassed.
		This program exposed many of these juveniles to sexual harassment from the adult inmates; such as a scene where the adult offender tells
the juvenile to "be his bitch" and encourages to rub a pack of Kool-Aid on his lips, then making sexual comments. The juvenile participants are UNDER
THE AGE OF 18, which would classify them minors in the United States. Little kids as young as 9 were being dangled above adult offenders like fresh meat.

This boy's only crime? Taking pocket change from his mother; a very mild offense.
		Shapiro maintains that he is innocent and was providing a form of "shock" therapy. But I would argue that allowing adult offenders to sexually harass
and physically threaten minors isn't any form of therapy. Shapiro often denies the dozens of studies conducted by researchers, who were present throughout
the filming of the series, which state that the program was never proven to be an accurate form of therapy for the children; but rather had the adverse effect.
A source whom was present in the program even said that he did not agree with the show, stating that "our boys don't need to be scared straight, they need to
be healed," and also raising the question "how are we helping kids who are traumatized heal from the trauma by re-traumatizing them with prisoners?"
		Despite what Shapiro says about the program being a form of therapy; other things he has publicly stated conflict with these claims,
showing that he didn't care about these kids, he only cared about the entertainment, and about the money.
		Quote from Shapiro himself: "It really is based on their personalities and what happens with them. We didn't have any belief
that Brandon T. from Michigan, who stood up to the officers and just kind of had a meltdown, would ever change. Even when the tour was over,
he got thrown out. But we still picked him, because it was so explosive and we never saw anything like that before or since. Although, other kids have stood up
to officers. It's amazing. When I went through high school or even college you never thought you would disrespect a teacher or an authority figure, especially
somebody in law enforcement, but these kids have no fear."
		As per this quote, it can clearly be inferred that he saw this as some form of sick entertainment. Arnold Shapiro is a sick man who spoke very
poorly of these troubled children, then decided that since no one else cared about them, he would traumatize them, endanger them, then televise the matter.
		Not only did they laugh at and mock these traumatized children, they exploited their vulnerable moments for the whole world to see,
and mislead the parents. Remember, respect should never be unilaterally demanded, it should ALWAYS be mutual.
